EUNET (European Network for Education and Training)
In July 2004 the new network EUNET was founded in Brussels by 7 persons, who constituted the first supervisory board: Richard Stock, President (F), Hanns Christhard Eichhorst (D), L.J Bunskoek (NL), Alessandra Pedagna-Leccese (I), Willibald Richter (A), Tomas Sedlak (CR) and IUC's Nina Norgaard (DK), who was elected one of the Vice-Presidents and coordinator for the Committee for Content and Methodology. The first General Assemblies were held in Bonn (2004), in Soesterberg, NL, in 2005 and 2006. In 2007 we went to Salzburg for the GA and for the election of the new board. Nina Norgaard was elected president after Richard Stock with Hanns Christhard Eichhorst and Wico Bunskoek as 1st and 2nd vice-presidents. Click for a letter from the new president. In 2008 the board stepped down and a new board was elected in June 2009 at Schloss Gimborn. Nina Norgaard now chairs the Committee on Content and Methodology. EUNET's headquarters is based in Bonn with Thomas Heckeberg as permanent representative. At present EUNET has 60 member organizations in Europe. DARE
The Democracy and Human Rights Education in Europe (DARE) Network was officially launched on 28 June 2003 in Antwerp ( Antwerp Declaration on Democracy and Human Rights Education in Europe). The network currently consists of 37 members from 26 countries in Europe. DARE publishes the regular eDARE newsletter, reports and other publications. For more information read here or visit the website on www.dare-network.eu. WHY DARE? - DARE is a Europe-wide network of NGOs and other organisations devoted to raise the profile of Education for Democratic Citizenship (EDC) and Human Rights Education (HRE), promote transcultural and transnational cooperation, and enhance the quality of education within these fields. DARE aims at achieving recognition, visibility and adequate resources for EDC and HRE as a core obligation for the formal and non-formal education systems throughout Europe. DARE has been established to address three shortcomings in the present arrangements for NGOs in Europe carrying out invaluable work in EDC and HRE:

  • The prevalence of NGOs which tend to work without adequate resources and in isolation, and are therefore inhibited in their access to information, to potential European partners, and to effective lobbying.
  • The tendency to treat separately the distinct but nonetheless closely interrelated fields of HRE and EDC.
  • The distance between research and practice, academia and activists, political scientists and educators in EDC/HRE.
